And now for something completely different! glamourpuss is a Canadian independent comic book written and illustrated by Canadian artist and master graphic novelist Dave Sim, the creator of the 300-issue, 6,000-page epic Cerebus ("... the longest-running originally English-language comic book series ever by a single creative team."). The premise of the comic book is threefold: a parody of fashion magazines, a history of photorealism in comic books (starting with Alex Raymond's Rip Kirby in 1946), and a surreal super-heroine comic (read that the strangest super-heroine comic book of all time). Great art and layout work, though. Posted here purely for purposes of trivia and equal-opportunity exposure. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Apparently DC is trying to wring as much comic book sales out of its Blackest Night event as possible, coming up with single-issue revivals of titles that have already ceased publication. As to whether or not such tie-ins are of any consequence, that's for the reader to find out for him/herself. This particular tie-in however manages to come up with nice epilogues to Shade and Hope O'Dare. And yes, veterans writer James Robinson artist Bill Sienkiewicz can still deliver. A Minutemen scan.

Barack The Barbarian: Quest For The Treasure Of Stimuli #4 (of 4)
CBZ | Feb 2010 | 25 pages | 21.9 MB
A spoof in the tradition of Mad Magazine, the 4-issue miniseries Barack the Barbarian took its cue when US President Barack Obama mentioned he collected Conan the Barbarian comics as a kid. A gathering of children listen as a shaman retells the legend of Barack the Barbarian. The Zombies That Ate The World #1 (of 8)
CBR | 29 pages | Feb 2009 | 24.5 MB
The Zombies That Ate The World is an eight-issue miniseries from Devil's Due Publishing set in a future world where the dead have come back to life and the living are forced to coexist with them by law. Given that as premise, Jerry Frissen & Guy Davis turned what would otherwise be another horrible horror gorefest into something totally unexpected and most welcome--a very funny, macabre, terrific horror series that Quentin Tarantino would wish he'd written (not that he ever entertained the idea of writing comic books). Part homage to the genre, part parody, and partially a bizarre tongue-in-cheek sociopolitical commentary, it's a fun read and a great diversion from the usual--and it seems now pedestrian--blood and gore of the sub-genre or from the usual hero fare.
